Details
about the Voluntary Care Club :-
It
was back in the 1930s that an occupation centre was opened by a
group of interested volunteers in the district.
It
was started for young people leaving 'special' schools and had been
unable to find work.
This
was interrupted by the 1939-45 war and beyond but was reopened in 1959.
It continued on two days per week until 1963 when Local Authority
Occupation Centres were opened.....the need for voluntary run centres
vanished.
It
was decided to keep the members together by running a social club on
Wednesday evenings and this has continued from 7th November 1963 until
now.
